DeLorme inReach GPS Communicator paves the way for 2-way texting

Portable GPS manufacturer DeLorme has come up with their latest product which was worked on in conjunction with Iridium. Known as the inReach, this super small device will sport a similar feature to that of traditional cell phones, where it allows you to not only receive but send free text messages as well – as long as they remain within the 160 characters limit. Of course, in order for you to access this feature, it will need to be paired with a PN-60w device from DeLorme, or you can also opt to have it work with an Android-powered gadget – be it a tablet or a smartphone, it doesn’t matter.

In addition, it also sends real-time GPS data to anyone who is tracking users with said device. A shared map will allow the user to track the progress of a hike or climb, where one can also access updated data at intervals which are set for every two minutes or once per hour. Apart from that, you can also send messages directly to Twitter or Facebook if the need arises.

Last but not least, just in case you’re stuck in a 127 Hours situation, it is capable of sending SOS messages at specified intervals, letting you receive confirmation of help that is on the way for added peace of mind. The DeLorme inReach GPS Communicator will hit the market this October at $250 a pop, where it will be able to live out its potential with a monthl $10 plan.
