Control Your Light Bulbs Remotely

Not too long ago we wrote about MusicLites, which basically combined speakers and lights into one device, which supposedly will help with saving space. Well how do you feel about WiFi light bulbs then? Dutch NXP Semiconductors have recently introduced a technology that would allow light bulbs to be connected over WiFi, meaning you will be able to control your light bulbs over any device that as an internet connection.

Using their GreenChip smart lighting solution, the technology would basically give every light bulb its very own IP address, which would allow users to monitor and manage just one light bulb, or all of them, from an internet-enabled device, such as a smartphone, tablet, computer or even a TV.

Not just limited to light bulbs, it looks like NXP Semiconductors has plans to take their GreenChip technology over to other household appliances, which they claim will be a way to maximize power savings as well as communicating various information to the user, i.e. consumption levels as well as the ability to communicate any problems within the device itself.

John Croteau, whois NXP’s senior vice president and general manager for power lighting solutions and high performance RF, explains the idea behind the GreenChip technology:

“For individual consumers, smart lighting means highly personalized, intelligent lighting environments – lights that turn on and off when and where you need them, at the desired level of brightness — while saving power and electricity costs.”
