After being threatened with a fine by the Taiwanese government for not having a 7-day return policy, it looks like Apple has given in to the authorities. It has been reported that the Apple App Store for Taiwan has changed its return policy from not having one to 7 days. Apparently the lack of a return policy goes against the country’s Consumer Protection Act. The government is trying to prevent users from buying apps that don’t work and not being able to do a thing about it.
We can’t say the same for Google who decided not to abide by the government’s laws and was fined for holding steadfast to its 15-minute return policy – but hey, at least it’s better than none at all right? Because of the violation, Google has been reported to have stopped sales of apps through the Android Market in the country of Taiwan. Now it looks like people in Taiwan won’t be able to purchase Android apps from Google Market until Google decides to give in to the authorities and increases its app return policy. Which makes one wonder – isn’t that worse for consumers?
