It was only a couple of months ago that we reported the app store for Windows Phone 7, Windows Marketplace, surpassed the 10,000 app milestone. As of today, that number has been doubled to 20,000 apps. Talk about a growth spurt! It looks like the Windows Marketplace is growing at roughly the same rate as Apple’s App Store. The Marketplace took 219 days to reach 20,000 apps, while the App Store took only 215 days. The Android Market, took 419 days and the BlackBerry App World took 684 days – almost two years to hit the same milestone.
This is definitely a sign of good things to come – with more apps available on the platform, more users will be interested in picking up a WP7 device, which in turn attracts more developers and results in even more apps on the store. How long do you think the Windows Marketplace will take to hit the 100,000 mark?
