VIA intends to achieve new highs with their latest announcement – the VIA QuadCore processor, making it the lowest power quad core processor on the market today. Of course, having so many cores would mean more work for the programmer if one wants to optimize a particular piece of software for it, although that would mean having it be more efficient energy wise, as it can do comparably more than a single core at a higher clock speed.
Inside the VIA QuadCore processor lies a highly optimized, energy-efficient multi-core architecture, and also makes it ideal for making the most of multi-display environments. It has a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of just 27.5 watts, where the 1.2+ GHz VIA QuadCore processor is already 21% more energy efficient compared to its nearest competitor, which ushers it straight into devices like desktop PCs, notebooks, small form factor PCs, all-in-one PCs, and mini-server system design applications.
