Ubiquitous iRemoTap lets you control turn off your devices remotely

Ubiquitous, recently demonstrated the iRemoTap at the Embedded Systems Expo – a smart power strip that has a WiFi connection which allows users to monitor and control the power usage on their laptops or mobile devices. Working just like a regular power strip, all users have to do is plug their devices in that they need powered on.

Users then have the option to monitor the power consumption of their devices through a web-based interface which is easily accessible through an internet connection. Through the interface, they can check how much power a device has been using, and they can even turn something off even if they forgot about it. The power strips can also be configured to send you a tweet or a text if a device has been left running for too long: a lifesaving feature for forgetful people.

Ubiquitous have plans to develop the iRemoTap to bring down the costs in order to make it available to everyone. No word of when it’ll hit the market, but in the meantime you can watch a video that Diginfo news put together about the iRemoTap:
