Sony PlayStation 4 confirmed, is in the works

Despite all the problems and troubles that Sony has gone through recently, those have certainly not derailed the company’s plans to usher in a next generation console for the masses – we are talking about the PlayStation 4 – as it was confirmed by Sony executive vice president and chief financial officer Masaru Kato during a conference call recently. The PS4 is in the pipeline, and this news could be used to counter Nintendo’s confirmation of its upcoming gaming console known as “Project Cafe” that will be revealed at E3 2011 in June. 

This is in contradiction to what Sony Computer Entertainment head honcho, Kaz Hirai said a couple of months back – that a “PS4 or next generation home console is not something that we are even debating now.” Come to think of it, each console has an average life span of 10 years or so in the market, which means the PS3 is currently in its middle age point, so to work on a successor now with 5 years to get all the kinks out of its system makes sense, but then again starting too early might mean missing out on future trends if one reads the tea leaves wrongly.

Basically, a console’s life span has not much relevance on whether two models can co-exist together – look at the PS2 and PS3. What do you think – will there be a PS4 coming within the next 5 years, and will Sony be able to pull it off nicely?
