Sigma SD1 flagship DSLR unveiled

Sigma is a name that serious shutterbugs know when it comes to high end cameras, and for the company’s DSLR, the SD1 will be their new flagship. First introduced last summer, Sigma has certainly taken their time to roll it out to the masses – some say that’s because they want to make sure that everything is fine and dandy. Now with the Sigma SD1, you are able to shoot whopping 46-megapixel images thanks to its sensor inside that has a trio of layers, with each of them rated at 15.4 megapixels. The SD1 is the only shooter around that relies on Foveon’s 23.5×15.7mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor.

If you want to get even more technical, then the camera will also come with dual Three-layer Responsive Ultimate Engine (TRUE) II image processing engines that works great for faster processing and subtler color tones. Apart from that, it is also proud to be the first Sigma camera which is capable of shooting RAW and JPEG format images simultaneously, with RAW images being shot in full, half or quarter size, depending on your choice.

The sensor will rely on a trio of silicon-embedded layers of photo detectors, so you need not worry about color moiré generated, hence doing away with the need for low-pass filters. With sensitivity that ranges from ISO 100 to 6,400, an 11-point autofocus system, Type 1 CF cards with UDMA compatibility, you’re all set for this $9,700 shooter when it ships this June.
