Samsung has announced that their Galaxy S II phone has surpassed 200,000 pre-orders ever since it was announced a couple of weeks ago until it’s launch last Friday. The phone apparently received 10,000 pre-orders within the first 29 minutes and doubled to 20,000 at 64 minutes. These figures surpass the pre-order figures for the iPhone 4 last year, although it would be pretty unfair to compare them because the iPhone 4 was only available from one carrier at launch while the Samsung Galaxy S II launched with three carriers on board.
While 200,000 units is a good start for the year, Samsung hopes to sell 10 million units of the phone in 2011 – the same amount of Galaxy S phones sold last year. No word on why Samsung isn’t increasing their target – is it because of the rumored Galaxy S III phone at the end of the year? Let’s see how Samsung goes about selling the Galaxy S II over in the states. Do you think a rebadged approach like they did for the first Galaxy S would be a good idea? Or should the phones on all carriers be of the same model?
