RIM recalls more than 900 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets

The bad news surrounding the BlackBerry PlayBook by Research In Motion (RIM) does seem to pile up by the day – we have unofficial word via a Staples memo RIM will be recalling more than 900 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, and since the memo failed to divulge the reason behind the recall, what better way than to hear from the horse’s mouth? Contacting RIM, here is what they had to say about the entire shebang.

RIM determined that approximately one thousand BlackBerry PlayBook tablets (16 GB) were shipped with an OS build that may result in the devices being unable to properly load software upon initial set-up.

The majority of the affected devices are still in the distribution channel and haven’t reached customers. RIM is working to replace the affected devices.

In the small number of cases where a customer received a PlayBook that is unable to properly load software upon initial set-up, they can contact RIM for assistance.

Not really earth shattering or traffic stopping in any way when you look at the big picture, but at least if you are a PlayBook owner and do experience some issues with it, you might want to see whether you are part of the “lucky” 1,000.
