Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 arrives without much fanfare

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 has landed, ladies and gentlemen, making up part of the Lumix G series of compact cameras, and it boasts of being the Japanese firm’s smallest and lightest digital interchangeable lens camera with a viewfinder to date. Being lighter and smaller compared to standard DSLRs, the DMC-G3 will be able to offer greater portability and creative control, thanks to a new 16-megapixel sensor, Full HD video recording capability with stereo sound in AVCHD format, an external Mode dial for quick access to various shooting modes, and a dedicated video button amongst others, letting you switch to video capture in a jiffy without having to change modes.

Just like the majority of DSLRs out there, the Lumix G3 will deliver an integrated flash and hotshoe for connecting optional Lumix flashes. Other hardware features include a high resolution 1.44m-dot image with 100% field of view (800×600, 0.7x magnification), better color breakup, a 3″ high-resolution LCD touchscreen display, and 23 Auto Focus Points – now how about that?

With the new Pinpoint AF, it lets you shoot with extremely precise near–pixel-level focus point setting using a simple touch of your finger. Since it is made out of aluminum, you can expect it to be of sturdy built (and recyclable, we would presume, when you’re done with it). Choose from a range of colors such as black, red, white and brown when it arrives in the market this June for $699.99 a pop, accompanied by a 14-42mm Zoom Lens Kit.
