LG Display introduces new AH-IPS in-plane switching technology

LG Display has a spanking new AH-IPS in-plane switching technology that is being shown off over at the SID-2011 in Los Angeles. LG Display’s latest 3.5″ smartphone panel is capable of supporting 960 x 640 pixel resolution at 326 PPI – that is mighty impressive considering what we have in the market currently, making it capable of delivering the most detailed images among smartphones that are already on the market at the moment. AH-IPS technology is actually an advanced form of IPS (In Plane Switching), where it can realize anywhere from 1.5 to 2 times the resolution of standard LCD panels. Being of extra high resolution, that means it is capable of showing off highly detailed images on a smaller screen size, while color accuracy is also improved – which will result in reproducing the original color precisely without any color distortion. Not only that, there will be greater light transmission that translates into lower power consumption, making it ideal for use in outdoor settings.

Apart from 3.5″, the new AH-IPS will also come in 4.5″ panels that target smartphones, while 7″ and 9.7″ panels will target smartbooks, with 55″ and 84″ panels falling under the TV category.
