KDDI Infobar A01 runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Most Japanese have a high end smartphone in their pockets, but it has been quite a breakthrough in recent times to see the iOS and Android platforms inching their way into the collective consciousness in that part of the world. KDDI, one of the larger mobile operators there, has rolled out the Infobar A01, which is the first smartphone in the Infobar series that will be powered by the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. To know what’s so special about it, head on after the jump.

The Infobar A01 stands out from the rest of the crowd thanks to the inclusion of tiles in its Android interface instead of buttons. Apart from a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, the Infobar A01 will also come with a 3.7″ display at 960 × 540 resolution, an 8-megapixel camera to keep up with the times, and NFC eWallet capability.

Available in four different colors, the Infobar A01 won’t be out at least for a couple more months as it arrives this July. No idea on how much it will cost, it will be a long time in coming before the Infobar A01 arrives Stateside.
