As we all know by now, the Nintendo 3DS is not known for having a long battery life. When stacked up against its earlier brethren (DS Lite and DSi) – the 3DS doesn’t stand a chance. This is due to the fact that having to output stereoscopic 3D requires more processing power, especially when you’re playing a game. Now we know we can extend the battery life by turning down the 3D effect – but then what’s the point of getting the 3DS in the first place?
Hyperkin has come up with a solution to the problem. Instead of you pushing the 3D slider south just to increase your 3DS’ battery life, you can attach the 3DS Powerplus to the handheld console instead. Sure it adds a bit of bulk to the device, but it’s nothing anybody should have trouble handling. The 3DS Powerplus gives you an additional 1,800mAh battery – larger than the 1,300mAh battery provided with the device itself that is said to double the playtime of the 3DS.
The 3DS Powerplus easily slides over the 3DS without blocking access to the cartridge port, stylus, SD card and control buttons. It’s not available now but Hyperkin will be releasing it this summer for $19.99.
