RIM has finally released a new version of the Facebook app for their BlackBerry smartphones. Ever since entering the beta testing phase about six weeks ago, results have been promising and now new features have been added to give the beta a much needed refresh. One of the main features the update brings is support for BlackBerry Device Software v5.0.
Other new features of the app include:
Facebook Chat enhancements – users now know when their friends are typing a message or when they are idle. Also included is a filter to easily find your online contacts to start chatting with them.
Mutual friends and friends list updated – now it’s easier to see which friends you have in common, when viewing a user’s profile, you have the option to check out which friends you have in common with them. And a feature unavailable before, you can now easily list out all of his/her friends (provided they’ve decided to enable it in their privacy settings).
Enhanced integration with BlackBerry Native Apps – never has it been easier to add a friend to your phone’s address book or BBM’s contact list. If you spot an email or BBM PIN on a wall, profile or message, you can easily add those details to your phone with just a few button presses. No more copying and switching to another app just to add a new contact.
Performance enhancements – improved Facebook Chat connection, cursor no longer disappears when scrolling through the News Feed, consistent chat message delivery notifications and improved online contacts list loading time.
Just head over to the BlackBerry Beta Zone and make sure you’re a member before you can start downloading the update. Remember to give your feedback to RIM so they can take your suggestions into consideration. You never know, it might make it into the next version of the app.
