Entourage Pocket Edge reader discontinued
In any market that has plenty of (healthy) competition, it goes without saying that the weaker opponents will find it more and more challenging to eke out its survival, and the same can be said for the Entourage Pocket Edge reader. The company’s Canadian arm has announced recently that they will no longer manufacture and distribute the Entourage Pocket Edge e-reader. It was built to be the smaller sibling to the original Entourage Edge e-reader, being a relatively tiny dual book device with one display that comprises of a 6″ touchscreen E-ink, while the other is a slightly larger 7″ full color resistive touchscreen display.
Running on the Android operating system, its main purpose was to be the middleman between an e-reader device and an Android tablet, since it was able to load some apps – although don’t expect the latest and greatest game and entertainment titles to run on it.
There is a fair number of cons attached to the Entourage Pocket Edge that ultimately led to its demise, among them including lackluster application and development support, a serious lack of apps that were specially written for the Entourage that can be downloaded from the Android Market, and outdated operating system – we’re talking about Android 1.6 here.
