Drawing Machine roboticizes artwork
The advent of computers have really changed the way art is display and made, as there are many digital artists out there who are extremely skilled with the mouse or tablet, but then again there is a group of people who feel that a true blue artist is one from the old school segment, paying homage to masters from the Rennaisance era. Well, the Drawing Machine that you see in action halfway above might just play a role in changing such perceptions, having appeared at this year’s Maker Faire to pick up the Maker Faire Editor’s Choice ribbon in the process.
Harvey Moon’s Drawing Machine is smart enough to take just about any black and white JPEG image, transforming it into a robot-drawn work of art. The machine will be controlled using custom software (but of course) that runs on an Arduino device, and because there is a large degree of randomization in the code, individual pieces end up being completely and totally unique. We do wonder just how much artwork from this machine will cost when it picks up in popularity.
