Call of Duty: Elite introduces in-game social network

How many social networking accounts, usernames and passwords have you had to remember over the years? Plenty? Well, add one more to the list this time around as Activision’s Call of Duty: Elite will feature a dedicated social experience for gamers. The service will be in beta when launched, and will only be made available to players of Call of Duty: Black Ops, where it will also be extended to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 later this fall.

Elite intends to keep the 20 million or so Call of Duty community who play the game each month in touch with one another, letting players form groups with anyone of their choice, to participate in leagues, share videos of their best moments over Facebook and YouTube, while checking out detailed statistics on game play.

Activision intends players to think of Elite as something which will be able to materialize the “four pillars” around the game: Career, Connect, Compete, and Improve. No word by Activision on how much it will charge for access to Elite, so hopefully they will keep things affordable in the long run.
