Bubble dress looks far out, Lady Gaga might want one

Air pollution is extremely common in this day and age, especially when it comes to huge metropolises that are teeming with people and vehicles, making smog more of a common occurence than a rarity. Not only that, air pollution has been identified as the cause for a variety of ailments such as asthma, heart disease, appendicitis, and for some, even suicide. How else are we to improve the air quality around us? That depends a lot on co-operating with other people, as it all starts with you. NYU student Hana Marie Newman managed to think of a solution that breaks fashion boundaries – a bubble dress that boasts of a built-in air purification system.

Known as “8,” this dress will come with an oxygen tank that pumps in purified air, so you need not worry about inhaling a whole lot of nasties. Below is what Newman has written about her concept that is worthy of Lady Gaga.

8 challenges inverted quarantine and the response to perceived toxic environments by exposing it’s folly and highlighting the next trend in the green movement with an elegant dress. 8 exposes the wearer while closing her off. It glorifies the oxygen tank and is a constant reminder to the user that she is breathing clean air and to the audience that they are not. It is a catalyst for a larger conversation questioning how what we do individually influences the way we collectively solve problems and raises airwareness.

Not to burst your bubble, but this is defintiely not the dress to wear if you’re starving and heading off to a buffet…
