Android Gingerbread update officially announced for Samsung Galaxy devices

Great news Galaxy S owners! If you were worried that Samsung was never going to release the Android 2.3 update for your phones just to push sales of the Galaxy S II units – you don’t have to worry anymore. Samsung has officially announced that their Samsung Galaxy S phones will all be getting the jump to Gingerbread. This means the Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Gio, Galaxy Fit and Galaxy mini.

While there’s still no word when on the American Galaxy S phones i.e. Fascinate, Vibrant etc, will get the update, let’s hope it won’t take too long (we all know how long it took for the phones to get Froyo). The Gingerbread update will bring faster performance and an improved user interface to the phones.

Yes we know that users can root and install a custom ROM for Gingerbread now but not everyone is that adventurous. The updates will begin rolling out mid-May, starting in the UK and Nordic countries and spreading to the rest of the world. The phones will require Samsung Kies, so make sure you’ve got the latest version in the meantime.
