All Nintendo console sales are declining, Nintendo in trouble?

The party’s over fellas because Nintendo’s consoles have all hit a new slump. The video game giant that rode back to the top with its incredibly successful Nintendo DS and Wii is now facing uncertainty as sales for both aged systems are slowing down and the piles of Nintendo 3DS consoles remain on store shelves.

According to Nintendo, the Wii sold only 172,000 systems last month, even lower than the previous low point in October 2010 when it only managed to move 232,000 units in the U.S. 3DS consoles are also not showing any growth, 194,000 units sold in April. That’s half as much as when it launched to 400,000 units in the U.S. As if that wasn’t already bad news, PSP sales continue to trounce the 3DS’s in Japan. Yes, a five-year old handheld is selling more than a three-month old system.

I think it’s safe to say that everybody who wanted a Wii already has one and everybody who still doesn’t own one yet will just wait for the Wii 2. As far as the 3DS goes, gamers are waiting for AAA titles like Mario and Zelda before jumping on the bandwagon.Things might look very different after E3, if Nintendo plays its cards right and impresses everybody with its new powerful Wii 2 system and new 3DS games.
