While it definitely won’t be the same as a regular book signing, B&N’s NOOKcolor tablets will have a new feature that lets authors digitally sign their books using an e-stylus. One of the first authors to host an eBook signing, Sandra Boynton (The Going to Bed Book) will have an event at B&N’s upper East Side store in New York City (7pm, Monday, May 2) next week. It’s not going to feel the same as getting a paperback signed, and possibly inked and smudged – but it’s better than nothing right? Maybe future versions of the book signing feature will enable a more authentic book feel to it.
I wonder if the signatures will stay on the book if it’s deleted from the device and then re-downloaded. Maybe B&N can also let users sell their autographed eBooks secondhand at higher prices. Though I don’t think it would be too hard to forge fake signatures, especially when they’re digital. Would you attend an eBook signing event?
