Nokia to create a tablet – but not just any tablet

In a recent interview with a Finnish TV channel, Nokia confirmed that they will be releasing a tablet – but they will be taking their own sweet time to get it right. As of now, details of the tablet are scarce, and they haven’t decided on what operating system they will be using for the device. As they haven’t given themselves a timeline to when they want the tablet to hit the streets, there is a possibility it could be running on Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system that should be out next year.

On the other hand they could possibly create a Windows Phone 7, Android, Symbian or MeeGo tablet now if they wanted to. But Nokia doesn’t want to be just another face in the crowd. According to Stephen Elop: “There are now over 200 different tablets on the marketplace, only one of them is doing really well. And, my challenge to the team is I don’t wanna be the 201st tablet on the market that you can’t tell from all of the others. We have to take a uniquely Nokia prospective.”

This news sounds like they are really committed to bringing a unique tablet onto the market, or they’re just buying time while they figure out what they really want to do. In either case, there’s nothing for us to do but wait. What sort of tablet do you think Nokia should come up with?
