Motorola promises unlocked bootloaders this year?

It seems that the power of a collective group of consumers cannot be understated – otherwise, how would Motorola actually listen to a bunch of Android users, with the mobile phone manufacturer touted to promise unlocked bootloaders as 2011 progresses. Here is what Motorola has to say about the situation :-

In terms of your question – we completely understand the operator requirement for security to the end user, and as well, want to support the developer communities desire to use these products as a development platform.  It is our intention to enable the unlockable/relockable bootloader currently found on Motorola XOOM across our portfolio of devices starting in late 2011, where carriers and operators will allow it.

You might want to take this statement with a pinch of salt though, and it does seem as though Motorola has conveniently passed the responsibility over to the mobile carriers. We do know that Sony Ericsson’s bootloader unlocker has already been officially launched, so this does not sound too far fetched, does it?
