It seems that the Pushmail and Powermail services which allow Nokia phone owners to receive push email notifications from popular providers such as Yahoo, Gmail and Rediff are now under the threat of being banned – now life would be unbearable for those who can’t live without these mobiles services, right?
A Nokia spokesperson however did issue a denial concerning such a notification from the Indian government, saying that “our push email services are operator-agnostic and can be enjoyed by consumers across operator networks on a host of Nokia devices. We have been working proactively with government authorities, including setting up servers in India. It is our endeavor at Nokia to comply fully with legal requirements wherever we operate. In offering our services in India, we have adhered to the rules and regulations as required by the Indian government”.
Nokia does have a very large market in India, so those who read that statement would realize that Nokia is going to play nice with whatever the government there asks of it, lest it continues to lose even more market share by being stubborn. Who’s next on India’s hit list?
