In the latest twist of events in the cloud-music business – Google might be partnering with an existing service to power their Google Music service. As previous rumors have stated – Google’s talks didn’t go down to well with the music labels and their cloud music service might be relegated to just a music storage locker instead. However, new rumors have surfaced saying that the search engine giant has been in talks with Spotify about the whole music situation.
In case you didn’t know, Spotify is a popular music streaming service across the Atlantic Ocean that our European neighbors love to use. For quite some time now, Spotify has been trying to break into the US market as well. But so far, like Google, they’ve been unsuccessful – with rumors of deals nearing to a close for quite some time now, we still haven’t seen any progress.
Google has had a history of acquiring services in areas which they haven’t been able to do very well in – case in point, the acquisition of YouTube in the video streaming business. So while Google might not buy out Spotify this time, a partnership between the two companies wouldn’t seem out of the question. However, both Google and Spotify have refused to comment on the rumors, so as far as we know, it could all be just hearsay. But if such a partnership ever happens in the future, it wouldn’t be surprising.
