May 31st will be a watershed moment for those of you who are in the social networking game right from the start – we are looking at long standing social networking site Friendster actually calling it quits. Basically, the site will undergo a major facelift, where all photos and comments are going to be deleted from the site, whereas “basic profile information” and friends lists will be the only things remaining.
All is not lost though, as existing Friendster accounts will be maintained for the moment. Alexa still shows that it is not all doom and gloom for Friendster, as it is still very popular in selected countries including the Philippines, as it is the 15th most visited site in the entire country.
If you’re a Friendster user, just what the heck are you doing there? Haven’t the rest of your friends already migrated over to Facebook the longest time ago? After all, 500 million plus users and counting can’t be wrong, can they? We look forward to see just how Friendster might reinvent itself – will it be able to rise from the ashes like a phoenix, or will it just die a whimpering death?
