When Peter Moore left Microsoft’s Xbox 360 team to become president of EA Sports, he wanted to make the gaming brand the Nike of video games. For years, Moore’s pushed the envelope for sports games, but his latest dream is bigger than just improving sports games – it could change change the way gamer profiles are managed in third-party games. His latest idea is to unify everybody’s gamer profiles across multiple platforms. For example, if you created a profile from Madden 11 and then bought Madden 12, you’d be able to “take everything that you’ve done [in Madden 11] and migrate it and move it along [to Madden 12]” as opposed to starting from scratch, building rosters, teams, etc.
Imagine going to one place that keeps track of all your achievements in any EA Sports game. I could make a 20 dunks in a basketball game on Xbox 360 and then make 85 in a PSP version and EA’s universal gamer profile would keep a running tally of both of them. The concept would be like Xbox Live on steroids. Moore hopes to do this with the help of the ever expanding cloud. Unfortunately, there is no time frame to release the feature, only that Moore is hoping to roll it out in all future EA Sports titles. If successful, the “persistent gamer profiles” would then make it across all of EA’s games.
