Unreal Engine 3 Coming to Sony Xperia Play and NGP?

Epic’s Mark Rein loves the PlayStation 3. He loves the Xbox 360. He loves the PC. You know what else he loves? His company’s Unreal Engine 3 on the iPhone and iPad. He doesn’t care much about Ubisoft porting the older Unreal Engine 2 to the 3DS. That much we know. However, concerning Sony’s upcoming Android-powered Xperia Play smartphone and PlayStation Portable successor – the NGP – he says Epic’s supporting both devices. Having not provided any specific details as to what supporting the Xperia Play and NGP actually means, we’re going to deduce it means Unreal Engine 3, seeing as he got worked up when Ubisoft was boasting about its Unreal Engine 2 triumphs on the 3DS. Logically speaking, both the Xperia Play and NGP are more than capable of handling the engine.  The Xperia Play is just about on par with the iPhone 4 with 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, whereas the NGP is theoretically capable of upwards of 2GHz on its quad-core processor. What interests us the most is not how well these games will play on their respective screens, but how they will look when hooked up to a HDTV via an HDMI cable. Games developed with Unreal Engine 3 should look every bit as gorgeous as some of the best PS3 and Xbox 360 games, with gratuitous lighting and shader effects.
