Metacritic Now Including iOS Game Reviews
Gamers are a rough crowd to please. What games are considered gaming? Only games like Super Mario, Halo and Mass Effect? What about simple but addictive games like Angry Birds? Popular game review aggregator Metacritic is officially adding iOS games into its games review catalog. Metacritic’s official statement is that the inclusion of iPhone and IPad games “reflects the critical community’s growing acceptance of the iOS platform as a legitimate, full-fledged gaming system whose games can compete with those designed for the more established, dedicated gaming systems.” Hardcore gamers have long bashed the App Store for eroding the market with cheap dollar game apps, but the joke’s on them now. Metacritic’s decision to rank games on the iOS platform is plenty proof that the devices provide legitimate gaming experiences. It’s not just the success of games such as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope that are redefining the term “gaming,” but high-quality games that push the envelope in graphics and gameplay such as Epic’s Infinity Blade and EA Mobile’s Dead Space.
