When a patient injures his/her knee, at the moment there is no qualitative way for doctors to check up on the healing progress. Well some researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA have come up with a way to keep track the healing process of a joint. With the use of sensors placed around the injured knee, they can measure the join’s range of motion over time. With these results, they are able to determine how well a joint is healing and if it is healing or not. The system has only been tested on knees, but they hope to adapt the system so that it can be used on other joints such as shoulders and hips in the future. Knowing your knee is on its way to recovery would be pretty useful, in the event that you’ll have to perform some strenuous activities like running, you’ll be able to tell if you’re ready for it or not.
