Rumors for the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series are already making the rounds on the web. As if Rockstar’s last game GTA IV selling over 20 million copies on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined wasn’t a given that there would be sequel, actor Gilbert Gottfried recently tweeted on Sunday, “just found out I’m voicing the lead in grand theft auto 5!” The tweet’s been removed from his Twitter – most likely at Rockstar’s request, but that just about confirms that Grand Theft Auto 5 is under development. A game of GTA5‘s magnitude would almost certainly help Microsoft and Sony sell more Xbox 360 and PS3 units. According to Microsoft back in 2008, GTA IV‘s launch single handedly accounted for a 54% increase in Xbox 360 sales. While GTA IV took place in Liberty City, a fictional setting loosely based on the real New York City, other recent rumors, suggest the game could go back to Los Santos, the game’s fictional version of Los Angeles. Frankly, we don’t really mind where the game is based in, but which consoles it will appear on. Practical judgment would peg Grand Theft Auto V to be released on the 360, PS3 and PC, but for all we know it could also be for a next-gen console. Now that would be exciting.
