General Electric offers solar-powered carousel
General Electric has decided to take a 1926 carnival carousel from the past and add a futuristic touch to it – by covering it with innovative thin film panels from GE which rely on a cadmium telluride semiconductor in order to harness the power of solar energy. It does seem as though thin film solar panels are slowly making their way to the current environment of devices, making solar energy more viable and cheaper to implement. GE themselves have already started to develop its range of thin film panels in a partnership with PrimeStar Solar Inc., and intends to integrate such solar panels in a process that is as easy as wrapping them around objects or perhaps, to push the boundaries of imagination even further, using them as sails. Among the benefits of thin film solar panels would be having an extremely low carbon footprint while possessing the fastest energy yield time when you take life cycle basis into consideration.
