If you thought that smartphones were the smallest HD video recorders around, you’re now wrong. Thanko has just released a portable HD Video recorder called the HDMI Video Pen HD Camcorder. About the size of a large highlighter pen, this video recorder brings HD recording to a whole new level of portability. It can record HD videos at 720p resolution and take 7 megapixel still photos. With a handle like a pen cap, you can easily tuck this into the pocket of your shirt or jacket to secretly record videos. In addition to recording your videos, it has a mini-HDMI connector for you to plug the pen straight into a TV to view your recordings directly off it. The HDMI Video Pen HD Camcorder also records videos onto swappable microSDHC cards so you can easily swap cards out in the event you run out of space. But videos are limited to a max time of 30 minutes (which shouldn’t a problem) and the battery lasts about 5 hours (it takes 3 hours to charge). The videos are also encoded in Quicktime .MOV so you shouldn’t have any problems getting the video to run. The HDMI Video Pen HD Camcorder is on sale now for $120 (memory card not included) here.
