LG wants to block the sale of PS3 consoles in the US
It seems that not a day goes by without some large company filing a lawsuit against another giant and now LG has asked the International Trade Commission (ITC) to block the sale of the popular PlayStation 3 consoles in the US due to a patent dispute. According to LG, several of Sony’s BRAVIA TVs, Blu-ray players, and the PS3 infringe of four patents held by the Korean company. The complaints about the PS3 apparently revolve around “a way of dealing with multiple data streams, such as different camera angles, as well as a system to reproduce data that’s stored on a read-only device.”
Since the ITC cannot award cash damages in addition to a ban on sale, LG has taken Sony to court in California, where it’s seeking unspecified damages. It’s hard to imagine what would happen if the PS3 were to really be barred from sale, but you’d imagine that the companies would work something out eventually. This case also might be related to previous claims from Sony that LG’s mobile phones infringe on seven of its patents.
