The Japanese Space Agency is planning to send a humanoid robot into space along with some astronauts for a space mission in 2013. The humanoid robot will be used to provide companionship for the astronauts on their long and lonely journey, as well as regularly send tweets (mostly photos) back to Earth detailing the condition of the astronauts and the progress of the space mission as well as contact the space station in the event of any emergencies. The robot won’t be posting any original thoughts or ideas, but it should give people back on earth an idea of what’s going on up there. The idea of a humanoid robot up in space with the astronauts sounds like a good idea, but if it’s one of those human lookalike bots it could be pretty scary.
