In yet another such study, the National Institute of Health finds that using a cellphone for as little as 50mn does modify the brain activity in the region near the antenna. Don’t panic yet: there’s no signs that this is actually causing harm but the study shows an increase in glucose metabolism in that area. Obviously, unusual brain activity is something that we probably should look into, especially when we’re talking about a technology that virtually everyone in our country uses or is exposed to. However, take note that the study was done only on 47 participants, which is not a lot.
“These results provide evidence that the human brain is sensitive to the effects of RF-EMFs from acute cell phone exposures” says the research team. In the meantime, the wireless industry has resisted a clear labeling of radio emissions, probably by fear that it would slow down sales. It’s idiotic, if anything, it might turn low-emissions into a new competitive landscape. If you are a bit paranoid about cellphone radiations because you’re a heavy user, using a headset or earpiece is enough to drastically reduce exposure… to your brain.
