It’s time to add two more casualties to the extinct games list from Activision. The Guitar Hero franchise and True Crime reboot has been officially given the boot and will never see the light of day. A large number of employees working at Freestyle games have also been fired, and the Guitar Hero business unit has been disbanded. Bad news for folks looking forward to those games, but sometimes things just happen for a reason. Guitar Hero has been steady declining in popularity, and when compared to its arch-rival, Rock Band, it has been lagging behind in innovation, so it’s no surprise that the franchise has been canned, though we wonder what will be left of DJ Hero. Activision has mentioned that the decisions were made in order for them “to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences.” It’ll be interesting to see what kind of games they will be releasing next, after all they can’t survive on releasing new Call of Duty games forever. Will any of you miss Guitar Hero, now that it’s been discontinued?
