How many of you are guilty of downloading an app or a game and only running it once on your phone? Yeah, you’re not alone. According to the latest report from Localytics, more and more users are starting to use new apps less and less. From the research they did, back in January-March 2010, about 22% of people were found to be using apps only once. However in October to December 2010, over 25% of people have been found to be using download apps only once. Judging from these statistics, it seems like app developers are possibly getting lazier with their apps over time. If someone doesn’t run an app more than once, they obviously didn’t have a very good first impression with it and if that’s the case – app developers need to buck up with their app development skills.
First impressions are important because if a user doesn’t use an app more than once, developers won’t be making any revenue from adverts and nobody is going to put in a good word for the app if they’ve only used it once. This is probably more important in games, where developers might decide to put the more engaging content towards the end of the game – but if users don’t even bother trying to get past the beginning – that’s hours of programming wasted, regardless whether the app was sold for a price or not. Doesn’t the satisfaction come from knowing that the app you coded was enjoyed by thousands of people all over the world? How many of you are guilty of running an app only once before you deleted it?
