Panasonic and Verizon team up to provide streaming full HD 3D content via FiOS TV

[CES 2011] Verizon and Panasonic have just announced that they have teamed up to demonstrate Full HD 3D streaming content to Verizon customers using their FiOS TV service. Verizon can send Full HD 3D content (currently the highest-possible resolution of 3D) via their FiOS TV fiber-optic service to a Panasonic Blu-ray 3D player. Unlike some competing technologies, Full HD 3D transmissions preserve the complete 1080p picture resolution without any quality loss. If 720p streaming won’t cut it, it looks like FiOS is is the only network that can get the job done today. It wasn’t mentioned if/when this service will be available to consumers (if ever, this is just a test), but this will be demonstrating it all week at CES 2011. It’s -almost- time to say goodbye to filling up the shelves in your home with disc boxes – with content that you can stream on demand, it’s safe to say that we won’t need to ever buy our media through physical means anymore.
