NFC-based Google mobile payments to arrive this year?

According to reports, two people familiar with Google’s plans say that the company may launch an NFC-based payment system as soon as this year. The concept will be fairly simple, allowing customers to pay for goods and services by waving their Android-powered phone against a register and checkout.
