Microsoft opposes Apple’s trademark claim to the App Store

Apple’s effort to trademark the name “App Store” is now facing some opposition from Microsoft, as the software giant argues that the phrase is too generic to register and would restrict competitors’ ability to use the term to describe their own services. Microsoft says that “app” is a common term for mobile software and “store” is a common term for a place where goods are sold. The filing cited efforts to trademark “The Computer Store” and “Log Cabin Homes” that were previously rejected due to their generic natures.
