Microsoft has recently released a video discussing the challenges behind the creation of “The Path of Go”, an Xbox 360 game based on the ancient Chinese game called Go. The Microsoft Research team took charge of developing the AI for the game and used the F# programming language for the task. In chess, players have about 20 moves per branch to analyze, while in Go, players have around 200 – talk about the complexity of the game! With the world’s best chess player being the computer, Microsoft is attempting to accomplish the same thing with the game Go, a game that is currently dominated by human beings. It’s only going to be a matter of time before they figure out how to beat humans, but when that day is, we can’t say for sure. Watch the Microsoft Research video here to find out more about the AI behind “The Path of Go”.
