iPad 2 to lack Retina Display?
The iPad 2 has certainly gone through a roller coaster of rumors, where we have heard of it coming with a new Retina Display during the week, only to have another rumor surface earlier this morning, saying that the iPad 2 will indeed lack a Retina Display. At least, that is what Apple watcher John Gruber claims, and is willing to stake his family jewels on the iPad 2 not having the Retina Display – so we say that on his behalf, but that is pretty much his conviction. According to the well-sourced Gruber, this is simply not happening as he “asked around, and according to my sources, it is too good to be true: the iPad 2 does not have a Retina Display. I believe the iPad 2’s display will remain at 1024 x 768.” What do you think, and which way will you sway towards? Perhaps Apple is holding their cards extremely close to their chest, and would prefer to save the Retina Display to debut in the iPad 3, where the sequel to the iPad will instead see improvements interms of ports included.
Update: The iPad 2 might come with a 2048×1536 display after all, where part manufacturers did mention that the higher resolution would be part of the new model. Of course, this is contrary to what you read above, so which side’s argument do you think holds more water? This is all very confusing for the layman, so you might want to head on to our iPad 2 primer and read up on all the latest updates.
