The only pot of gold that we can think of associated with this solar-powered rainbow machine would be the inventor’s bank account – assuming this nifty little device is properly marketed to achieve phenomenal sales figures. Why leave the presence of rainbows to chance, where you will need to wait for rain and sunshine to come together for one of the more beautiful spectacles of nature, when you can now artificially create a rainbow for yourself? That is what Michael Jones McKean set out to do with this artificial rainbow machine, relying on reclaimed rainwater and sunlight to create rainbows. This is made possible thanks to “a series of high-powered jet pumps and custom fountain nozzles to spray water into the air, creating the conditions needed for a rainbow to appear.” Folks who are interested to see this machine in the flesh (and whether it works as “advertised”) can head down to the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska next June. Perfect for lifting up your mood after a particularly depressing day, don’t you think so?
