At the International Mobile Internet Conference, Nokia has announced some broad plans for its smartphones by announcing an aggressive update schedule for its Symbian devices. Now that the company has re-taken over the reigns of Symbian development from the Symbian Foundation, Symbian will get four or five updates over the next year or so. Nokia says that a new home screen, a more contemporary user interface and experience, and an updated Web browser are par for the course. The company has also committed to having a 1 GHz phone by mid-year 2011 and that dual-core phones will follow by end of year 2011 or early 2012. The company will also extend its leadership in making smart camera phones–the most recent and excellent example is the Nokia N8–in its N-Series by introducing optical zoom lens. Nokia currently uses Carl Zeiss optics on its N-Series multimedia smartphones, most of which boasts excellent photography features.
