HP has filed for a number of trademarks, which suggests that those marks can be names for upcoming webOS device releases in 2011. The trademarks were filed for the names Gyst, Myte, and Veer, and the description, although general, could fit for a description of a smartphone. Previously, smartphone codenames Mantaray, Stingray, and Windsor were found in a webOS source code, along with the codename Broadway, which many believe to be a Pixi 2 refresh. Although not a lot of information, if any, were gained from the patent filing, industry insiders speculate that at least one forthcoming webOS model will eschew a hardware keyboard in favor of a slicker all-touch interface; a webOS 2.0 on-screen keyboard was already seen in development and leaked, and that would fit well with predictions of a slate-only device. As the company has not made any major plans for announcements or press conferences in CES related to phones, it’s unclear when the products will be announced or debuted; the next big trade show after January’s CES is Mobile World Congress, an international event.
