Heartland Robotics developing a ‘PC of Robots’
Heartland Robotics is in the midst of something interesting – those who have paid the company a visit would have certainly come across a robot that is rather human-like from the waist up (not in total appearance though), sporting a torso with either one or two arms that have grippers. A camera is located on where the head is supposed to be, and while the robot sports no legs, it is able to get around by a rolling base, but it won’t be able to move autonomously just yet. Both arm and gripper can be trained in a jiffy to perform repetitive tasks simply just by moving them without the need for software code – how cool is that? It is highly possible that this robot will be based partly on MIT’s Obrero platform as seen on the right. What makes this all the more enticing is the price point of around $5000 which is dirt cheap for most folks to delve into the world of robotics.
