After the recent proof-of-concept hacking of the iPod nano’s file system, a developer out there has managed to get the device into DFU mode to install custom firmware files. The developer used a popular jailbreak recovery utility, iRecovery, to work with the iPod nano and used it to install an extracted operating system file into the iPod nano (shown in video). The file was meant to boot the iPod nano into a white screen mode, and it did just that. Of course, in terms of being flashy, this doesn’t do anything at the moment, but considering that he managed to get a custom firmware into the device, it’s further evidence that hackers out there can toy with the nano more, hopefully paving the way for actual useful iPod nano hacks.
