Blockbuster has confirmed that its Express kiosks will have to wait 28 days before getting new movies from Warner Bros. to rent, despite recently testing same-day launches. The company made the move in an effort to have closer contact with Warner Bros. as well as lower distribution cost and maintain a healthy supply of offerings. It already has similar deals with Fox and Universal. This news means that Blockbuster’s kiosks are in the same position as Netflix, which also is restricted by a four-week delay to ensure access to major titles for physical rentals and online streaming. As it is, the movie industry seems to be having some trouble adapting to the new distribution methods of the Internet, but it’ll be very interesting to see what the final outcome will be.
